Ethics has always been a relevant issue for psychotherapists, especially with respect to the ethics of the therapeutic relationship. Less explored – at least in proportion – are those themes that pertain to the kind of relationships we entertain each other in the world we live in, and how psychotherapists take care of them. Psychotherapy itself is a relationship, whose efficacy mostly relies on the responsiveness and synchronization displayed throughout the therapeutic process, and, especially, on the effects that spread in the lives of those who require help. This latter aspect – always deemed crucial in a systemic perspective – deserves probably a renewed attention, since we know for sure that individual well-being is strictly related to the quality of relationships, from the close relationships of couples and families to the more expanded level of social participation. Nonetheless, recent and topical global issues concerning the environment have reawakened the ecological awareness of systemic psychotherapists, who are trying to assume a more active stance towards them.
Keywords: ethics, relationships, psychotherapy, responsibility, society, environment.
