Due to the rising popularity of extreme right-wing formations in the global political landscape, studies on so-called neo-fascism have increased significantly in recent years, despite a number of critical flaws within these studies. Indeed, the very category of neo-fascism raises significant issues, such as an excessive use of the term in public discourse to describe a wide range of personalities and parties. This literature review, however, suggests how the recent implementation of specific good practices — mainly the acknowledgement of 1945 as a turning point, the overcoming of an event-driven analysis, and the adoption of a transnational approach — is strengthening this field of study.
