This paper explores the philosophical contributions of Spinoza (1632-1677), focusing on his subversive theology and the scientific foundation of ethics presented in his work, Ethica ordine geometrico demonstrata. Spinoza’s redefinition of human nature and the ontological principles underpinning his ethics challenge traditional moral evaluations. By classifying human passions and their impact on individual well-being, Spinoza offers strategies for personal and political improvement. The study delves into the parts of Spinoza’s Ethica that focus on the origin and power of the human affections, providing insights into self-improvement and the pursuit of joy, in the context of social relationships, through rational understanding of the forces that necessarily operate in the human mind.
