The article singles out - within the DBE - some profiles of educators and teachers that cooperated with publishing houses between 19th and 20th century, ending up as pillars for major educational publishers. Their manifold activities - as authors, editors, series directors - were not only a chance to increase their poor incomes, but especially allowed them to integrate and enhance didactic methods, offering up-to-date materials to their colleagues. In this way, publishing houses became proper pedagogic laboratories, even though concern for economic profit remained high, the latter leading to an increase of schoolbooks publishing in that period. A particular attention is devoted to women teacher and their activity as children’s authors.
