Education for sustainable development: Background/Ten years of practice in nation wide programmes/Future development - The program develops in the period of 1999-2004 content, quality and good practise in the all thematic areas of ESD, combined school development with future orientation. One of the main topics was to improve dynamic qualities, in German covered by the framework of Gestaltungskompetenz. These tries to combine OECD competencies for the 21st century with the outcome of actual research on students and children’s competencies. After five years of development of concepts, strategies of integration in school developing policy and teaching materials, the additional program Transfer 21 involved more then 12% of German schools in active ESD. One of the main topic was to establish ESD as regular part of school profile and school policy adopting the work of the European network SEED in the field of Quality criteria. This network is one of the backbones of ESD in the context of the UN-Dekade in Germany.;
