Since the first industrial revolution, the traditional relationships between built spaces and communities have radically transformed, simultaneously altering the designer’s role in defining spaces for collective life. The way contemporary architectural projects respond to community needs is explored through two examples: Pilares Iztapalapa (Mexico City) and Xihe Project (Henan Province). The research critically examines architectural approaches that address socio-spatial challenges in different contexts, where architects act as mediators of transformation, bridging local traditions and contemporary needs while designing spaces that strengthen identity and social bonds.

Keywords: community center; participation; architectural design
