The violent bad weather of October 2020 deeply damaged the territory of the Roya valley, an internal cross-border area between France and Italy. The Nice/Vintimille-Breil-Cuneo rail-way line, which crosses this mountain area, was the only infrastructure capable of responding to the emergency and has rekindled the debate on the reuse of stations, a significant heritage of the twentieth century, now largely abandoned. The article proposes to analyze and put into perspective the socio-spatial innovation experiences that allow the railway infrastructure to reveal itself as a territorial resource, capable of proposing new living practices in harmony with the built and natural environment.
Keywords: crises, re-use, railway stations, social innovation, temporary urban planning, Roya Valley
