This intervention unfolds from a set of research questions based on a meaningful and peculiar language, the literary narration, and its relationship with the symbolic (but not only) construction of the Italian mountain environment. With a literary geographical perspective, the intervention relates to the contemporary human geography studies on the demographic-productive return to the mountains, aiming to guide the reasoning to their actual cultural meanings. Three contemporary novels, Le otto montagne (Cognetti, 2016), Il giro del miele (Campani, 2017) e Resto qui (Balzano, 2018) are analysed here as traces of an editorial attention to the Italian mountain environment, as well as cores of a possible cultural geographic reasoning.

Keywords: Literary geography, literature and mountain, returns to the mountain, cultural geography.
