The contribution presents the first results of a research carried out in a prison in central Italy as part of the Forward Project. The analysis of the custodial institution as a social micro-system, capable of developing its own informal order within the limits imposed by the formal organization of custody, allows us to see its particular functioning at work. Only by investigating the processes and dynamics implemented by the various actors involved, the interactions concretely realized in the institutional reality can emerge. Through an ethnographic research, supported by semi-structured and unstructured interviews, the perspectives of meaning developed with regard to cultural diversity, representations and processes of social reintegration in a transformative key are investigate
