Labour contractors in the agricultural sector are often depicted as unscrupulous people tak-ing advantage of vulnerable workers. The negative stereotypification of labour contractors fails to capture the different nuances of this figure and the mechanisms underlying the reproduction of their role in the contemporary Italian agricultural production. This is shown through the re-sults of a field research carried out in the agricultural areas of central Italy.
