Autonomy and dependence: two terms competing ? Article based on the consideration that our culture rewards exaggerated way the acquisition of autonomy. Successively it shows how placing patients on a continuum from the dependent to the autarchic pole can be very useful in systemic therapists. This is a fairly simple way to integrate in our view the underlying concept of personality trait to the symptomatic label.
