The author analyzes the evolution of French trade unions toward the building of Europe. The Cgt which belongs to the communist bloc, fueled strong criticism aimed at the European institutions which distanced it from the process of European construction for years. Instead, Fo and the Cfdt, even if they were not identical in their approach to Europe over the years, have demonstrated more dispositions. If Fo was a militant of the European cause at a time when Europe was considered a bastion against communism, the Cfdt had a particular trajectory and a role of primary importance, especially between the 1980s and the 1990s when the Europe designated by Delors somehow corresponded to its political agenda.
