Families living in difficult contexts are exposed to risk factors that can compromise the psycho-physical development of minors. The 1000 Days program of Pianoterra association supports them with early, multidimensional and integrated interventions fully integrated with mother-child services. Several studies in the neuro-scientific and socio-economic fields have shown that to break the vicious circle of hardship and poverty it is essential to intervene early, even before the birth and in the very first years of a child's life. The 1000 Days program is based on this assumption. The article outlines the intervention methodology and examines the services designed to support minors most at risk through the co-construction of paths of support that involve their parents, strengthening their parenting skills and aiming at their autonomy. It also explores how the program has adapted to the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Keywords: early development; responsive parenting; prevention; inequalities; mother-child healthcare; empowerment.
