Pittura di famiglia: come si trasformano le relazioni familiari? - The author goes on a fascinating journey through family painting, starting from the Sacred Family and coming to the Twentieth century. The journey allows to read the most important changings of family relations in Western culture through the pictorial work. Thus, a cultural gap is filled up in the field of family relations studies, where family painting has always been neglected. In particular, the paper allows to consider the Seventeenth century as the golden age of family painting: in this century, after the shift from the Sacred Family to the bourgeois family, the themes of couple and family intimacy, and of family decay as well, already appear. At the end, the issue of the heritage is discussed. Another important century is the Nineteenth one, when works by Francisco Goya and Edgar Degas are presented. At last, the Twentieth century emphasizes the personal feeling of the painter. The paper ends with the description of a painting by Frida Kahlo, dealing with a generational topic, and with clinical considerations.
