«And I will take care of you». The work of family carers between irregularity and exploitation. The essay analyses two peculiar dimensions of domestic care work performed by family carers: irregularity and exploitation. After recalling the main data on domestic work in Italy, on the one hand, starting from the way in which the welfare state approaches the care of non-self-sufficient persons, the causes, consequences and possible remedies to the widespread irregularity that characterises the sector are reconstructed; on the other hand, the phenomena of labour exploitation of which family carers are often victims are explored, highlighting in particular the limits deriving from the application of article 603-bis of the penal code.
