The essay, starting from the concept of transition, is concerned with illustrating how this is affecting the discipline of cultural goods. It explains how the use and exploitation of cultural heritage is undergoing a massive change with regard to new technologies. Digital platforms and infrastructures, multimedia representations and apps are leading to a democratization of culture that allows works of art to be dematerialized and enjoyed by an ever-wider public, avoiding their deterioration and enhancing the right to culture.
