In his film Jackie (2016), Chilean movie director Pablo Larraín accompanies John Kennedy’s wife, Jacqueline Bouvier, in the dramatic hours following that 12:30 p.m. on November 22, 1963, when her husband was shot dead in Dallas. The polyphony of voices and situations that revolve around the pivot of the narrative constituted by Jackie-Natalie Portman allows us to enter into the experience of a victim: that polyphony, in fact, bears witness to the pain and bewilderment, the sense of dispossession, the loss of references and coordinates, of the ‘before’ and the ‘future’, but it also makes us approach (and somewhat understand) the desire that all this be truly recognised: “Let them see what they have done”.
Keywords: Victimisation, recognition, dispossession, recomposition, memoirs, meaning
