The project for the Maribor-Jug neighbourhood in Maribor (1973-1982) may be considered as a masterpiece of self-managed socialist urban planning in Yugoslavia. The complexity of the design process, as well as the linguistic difficulty in the study of the original documents, have made this case not yet fully investigated by the international historiography. In this contribution, after analysing the construction events to clarify the role of the various actors involved in the urban and architectural project, the critical issues highlighted by sociological researches already in the early 1980s are examined through unpublished documentation.
Keywords: Vladimir Braco Mulič; Yugoslav urbanism; sociology of local communities
