The Archivio Piero Bottoni is one of the first and most important collections of Politecnico di Milano and, at a national level, one of the more significant devoted to a protagonist of modern architecture and town planning culture: Piero Bottoni (1903-1973). Starting from a reflection on the Archivio Piero Bottoni activities from the 1980s up to date, in this article the author leads a reflection on the relationship between cultural heritage conservation and scientific research and on the meaning of architecture, town planning, and design archives in the universities.
