While the city emptied out and its spaces suddenly became still and silent, a single movement crossed the deserted streets and squares, revealing presences that were almost invisible until the recent lockdowns. The City of riders is a research project on the contemporary city: on how to represent the transformations introduced by new urban populations, and on the idea of the city that emerges from those who observe it from a gaze in motion. 100 maps created by Milanese riders reveal new geographies on which the hypothesis of a project for a light infrastructuring of public space is grafted: a network of ‘anchoring devices’ serving both the riders and all citizens; a design aimed at affecting the construction of a new space of citizenship.
