The author presents, as a consequence of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) epidemiologic emergency, some of the first implications expected for the compulsory introduction of smart/remote working in Italian public administrations in the areas of public management and mental health. Aware of the ongoing situation, the author integrates findings from literature and from recent research. After describing the ordinary, and extraordinary, procedures for smart working in Italian public administrations, the author presents the main managerial and mental health implication for workers and concludes with some remarks on possible follow-ups regarding both research and policy.
