Even though the Sovietization of Central-Eastern Europe is a well-researched topic, only a few studies are focused on the specific process of imitation of the Ussr’s sport structures. This topic has often been simplified, offering a picture in which countries with a rich sporting tradition, such as Hungary, enthusiastically accepted this new approach to sport. By studying documentation in the Budapest Foreign Ministry it is now possible to offer a new picture, highlighting the contradictions which characterized Hungarian-Soviet sport relations during the period under analysis.
