In France, there is a tradition of silence for psychoanalysts. Silence first consists in the rejection of adaptive speech. It is also muted speech. Silence, which is a kind of behaviour, covers a great variety of mental activities that unfurl over a very broad spectrum: from the resistance to psychoanalysis to the psychic implication of fusional communication, including evenly suspended attention strictly speaking, the source of interpretation. Such dynamics are determined by transference and countertransference.
Keywords: Silence, spectrum of mental activities, resistance, fusional communication, suspended attention, interpretation
