The author traces the evolutionary stages, highlighting the difficulties that come from an inadequate caregiving, difficulty leading disorders of the self, that is, of identity. Faced with this kind of problems the therapist’s job is to be present in the setting providing the experience of hospitality, tuning, birth, and the recognition of borders to make possible the emergence or strengthening of identity.
