The writer Sergio Solmi, a militant of the Party of Action during the Resistance, worked from 1926 up to 1967 at the Legal Service of Banca Commerciale Italiana (Comit), formerly as chief of the Advisory Office and later on as responsible for the entire Service. Treasuring the recently rearranged papers of the Legal advisory dept. of Comit, now in the custody of the Historical Archive of Intesa San Paolo Bank, the A.A. reconstruct Solmi’s activity during WWII and the post-war years, outlining the legal questions he dealt with and in particular the ones concerning the anti-Jewish measures, of whom he tried to limit the most harmful effects, and the fate of Comit offices located in the territories yielded to Yugoslavia, where he did his best to defend the interests of both his company and the Julian refugees. Also the subject of anti-Fascist purge is taken into consideration, since Solmi, as a member of the competent advisory commission created in May 1945 inside Comit, helped avoid abuses and retaliations, being further on appointed to solve, inside the government bodies, the problems raised by the confused relevant legislation.
