The issue of space debris has become a priority, given the constant growth in the number of artificial objects in orbit and the exponential increase in the risk of collisions. Furthermore, outer space, a domain of resources to which everyone has access, falls into the category of commons, making its regulation necessary to avoid opportunistic behaviour and ensure its sustainable use for future generations. To this end, it is necessary to adopt a “circular space economy” model, which extends the useful life of satellites through in-orbit services and encourages the reuse and recovery of components, in compliance also with sustainable development.
Keywords: Outer space, Space debris, Sustainability, Future generations, Circular space economy, Waste.
