the politicization of art is a central characteristic in the thought of Herbert Mar¬cuse, the German philosopher from the Critical Theory, both in his most known contribu¬tions and especially in his last work, which was titled The Aesthetic dimension. More speci¬fically, this political intent is exhibited in his conceptualization of the ‘aesthetic dimension’, contrasting with the orthodox Marxist aesthetics. This concept got then used by Angela Da¬vis, the American militant and philosopher, perhaps Marcuse’s most known pupil, in the last part of Blues and black feminism: however, she rethinks the ‘aesthetic dimension’ by chan¬ging radically the conditions for its politicization. That is why it may be interesting to follow Davis and Marcuse’s arguments, trying to understand how the former reshaped the aesthetic dimension proposed by the latter, and why she did it.
