This essay aims to examine the impact of an emotional journey to India on young people in the years from the 1960s to the 1980s. There is indeed no doubt that such an experience can led to far-reaching implications for both a person and a group. The authoress highlights the identity crisis which affected the baby boomers generation that not only was totally ignored by the traditional authorities, but it endeavoured to deal with an existential anxiety. Uncertainty, disquietude, protests and a longing for perpetual movement turned into the constant search for a Garden of Eden. Lastly, it is noteworthy to state that memoirs were extremely influential in analysing a vast array of subjects such as alterity, gender roles, cultural conflicts and drug-taking.
