English in Italy: Linguistic, Educational and Professional Challenges explores the influence of the English language on areas of major social and cultural growth in 21st-century Italy. More specifically, the volume investigates the impact of English on general and specialised discourse, the role of English in language mediation practices in professional and educational settings, the educational and cultural implications of the spread of English-medium Instruction (EMI) in Italian universities, and, finally, the contact of English and Italian in 'new' migratory contexts. The need for such an investigation comes from the well-known fact that the linguistic and cultural influence of English represents a complex, challenging and controversial phenomenon in contemporary Italy, Europe and worldwide.

Cecilia Boggio is Senior Lecturer of English Language and Applied Linguistics in the Department of Economics, Social Studies, Mathematics and Statistics (ESOMAS) at the University of Torino. She is also a Research Fellow of CeRP (Center for Research on Pensions and Welfare Policies), a research unit of the Collegio Carlo Alberto. Her research interests include Critical Discourse Analysis, Multimodality, Metaphor Theory and Analysis and English for Specific Purposes with a focus on the language of financial communication.

Alessandra Molino is Senior Lecturer of English Linguistics and Translation in the Department of Foreign Languages, Literature and Modern Cultures at the University of Torino. Her research interests focus on English-medium Instruction, English for Academic Purposes, and Business Discourse on sustainability, three areas which she explores combining the tools of Corpus Linguistics and Discourse Analysis.
