The discipline of peacekeeping includes all the actions taken for the affirmation of the universal value of peace, for its maintenance or restoration. From this, in every kind of action held in the broader sense of humanitarian or international intervention, there is a precise "power of politics" motivation. According to some scholars, the whole system that originates from this type of intervention is inherently non-democratic and lacking of legal and, before all, political and historical legitimacy. This paper investigates some controversial and, in some sense, unsolved social and legal aspects of peacekeeping, that still today make its definition and application difficult.
