To manage waiting times, it is essential to use administrative data in planning the provision and in managing the demand for services. The article illustrates the experience of the Alto Adige Local Health Authority in the estimation of future needs and in the retrospective analysis of the consumption of outpatient services. The predictive quantitative model developed by the LHA, as well as the strategic choices to reduce waiting times. With respect to some particularly relevant outpatient services, retrospective analyzes are proposed to verify the appropriateness of consumption, with specific reference to consumption indices by area of residence, GP, or age groups; intra-provincial mobility; the methods of accessing services; priority codes.
