Negli ultimi anni, si è osservato un fenomeno socioculturale e clinico emergente: la “popolarizzazione” della sofferenza intrapsichica tra gli adolescenti. Questo elemento comprende una crescente tendenza dei giovani a identificarsi con diagnosi psichiatriche, una fascinazione per il ruolo di “paziente psichiatrico” e un interesse per le terapie, specialmente farmacologiche. Mentre tali comportamenti possono rappresentare una ricerca di senso e legittimazione del proprio disagio, e una maggior consapevolezza circa il tema della salute mentale, si sollevano però interrogativi critici sul rischio di una medicalizzazione eccessiva, sull’impatto delle diagnosi precoci e sulla capacità dei servizi di salute mentale di accogliere e rispondere a questa complessità. Questo articolo esplora il fenomeno nei suoi aspetti psicologici, culturali e clinici, proponendo riflessioni per il futuro della psichiatria dell’adolescenza.
