In questo volume sono raccolti i risultati del programma di ricerca Home Care Design for Parkinson’s Disease, finalizzato alla definizione di buone pratiche progettuali per potenziare l’autonomia e la qualità della vita delle persone con malattia di Parkinson all’interno dell’ambiente domestico. Il volume propone un quadro introduttivo della malattia di Parkinson, analizzando le principali e più frequenti aree di disagio e/o difficoltà sperimentate dalle persone con questa malattia durante le attività di vita quotidiana.

Siamo circondati da fenomeni complessi che si manifestano nello spazio geografico: disponiamo di tecnologia e di un diluvio di dati, ma soprattutto di teoria, concetti e strumenti per condurre analisi spaziali affidabili, capaci di contribuire alla comprensione dei fenomeni e alla gestione del territorio. L’analisi spaziale è una parte qualificante della moderna geografia quantitativa e continua a stimolare sviluppi della statistica che affrontino gli effetti dei processi e dai dati spaziali: questo libro vuole presentare, discutere, rendere più accessibile questa disciplina ancora troppo poco nota.

Gli studi raccolti nel volume riguardano diversi ambiti tematici, affrontati attraverso la doppia lente del design della comunicazione e degli studi di genere, che consentono di documentare alcuni territori del paesaggio mediatico critici, poiché caratterizzati da logiche progettuali che sottostanno al dominio maschile e che andiamo a osservare in profondità, al fine di rivelare i meccanismi che influiscono sulla stereotipizzazione dell’identità femminile.

This volume collects the results of the research programme Home Care Design for Parkinson’s Disease, aimed at defining good design practices to enhance the autonomy and quality of life of people with Parkinson’s disease within the home environment. The project approach is based on the principles of Design for Inclusion and on the theoretical and methodological approach of Human-Centred Design which have made it possible to focus attention on the specific needs and expectations of people with Parkinson’s disease and their families and to define the different design solutions.

Cities are facing unprecedented challenges driven by different forces. On the one hand the ever-increasing effects of climate change are impacting on the urban microclimate and environmental balance, on the other one social, political and economic issues are influencing the living conditions, the accessibility to primary services and resources, as well as growth opportunities for the younger generations. The book provides therefore insights, experiences, approaches to deal with current and especially with future transition processes which are expected to shape the cities of tomorrow.

Adaptivity of the urban open spaces to face the climatic, socio-ecological, multicultural and health challenges, raises questions with multiple design implications, which cannot be solved only with the functional, formal, and technical rethinking of the space. Today, the metropolis of Dubai is characterized by an extreme climatic-environmental conditions and, at the same time, by an almost infinite capacity to regulate the living spaces through the most innovative technologies. The theme of adaptive design of open urban spaces has been contextualized in some case-study areas of Dubai. The results outlined a complex framework of different development trajectories, both for the designing innovation of the urban open spaces, and for the launch of new teaching methods of architectural, technological, and urban project.

This book deals with re-manufacturing, recondition, reuse and repurpose considered as winning strategies for boosting regenerative circular economy in the building sector. The book investigates the most promising strategies and organizational models to maintain over time the value of the environmental and economic resources integrated into manufactured products, once they have been removed from buildings, by extending their useful life and their usability with the lower possible consumption of other materials and energy and with the maximum containment of emissions into the environment.

In a time when profound sociocultural and technological changes are affecting the design discipline, this book presents a number of consolidated and emerging issues in product design under four dominant perspectives: technical, human, digital and social. Different perspectives underlying modifications and adaptations of the design concept, together with the fixed elements that have characterized product design since its inception during the Industrial Revolution, are the subjects of analysis and discussion in the present book.
