During the post-war reconstruction period, job placement played a crucial role. Intense conflict arose over the rules governing job placement, leading to repeated episodes of violence. Agriculture was among the most affected sectors. In 1947, a legislative decree mandated minimum labour requirements in agriculture (imponibile di manodopera), as part of a full employment strategy. This obligation was later abolished by ruling 78/1958, which deemed it incompatible with Article 41 of the Constitution, which guarantees the freedom of private economic initiative.
